Microfibre; Why It's Magic For Drying Dogs and Why We Almost Didn't Use It...

When I first started researching materials for our Bark and Beau Dog Drying Kit, I wasn’t keen on the idea of microfibre—and for good reason.
The only microfibre I’d ever come across felt thin and, honestly, a bit cheap. I assumed all microfibre was the same, and I couldn’t see how it would work for a high-quality dog drying towel.
As it turns out, I was completely wrong.
What I didn’t realise at the time is that microfibre comes in different densities (measured in GSM—grams per square metre), and this makes a huge difference to how it performs. Density affects everything from absorbency and softness to thickness and durability—something every dog owner will appreciate when dealing with wet, muddy dogs after walks.
It wasn’t until I received samples across a range of densities that things really clicked. That’s when I started to see just how effective microfibre can be—but only if you choose the right grade for the job.
That’s the real magic of microfibre: its versatility and uses.

Lower-density microfibres (around 200 GSM) are lightweight and quick-drying, while higher-density options (500+ GSM) are thicker, more absorbent, and more plush. Each has its place—but not all are suitable for drying dogs after a walk, a swim, or a rainy day here in the UK.
For us at Bark and Beau, the challenge was finding the perfect balance, because getting it right mattered to us.
A thin microfibre simply wouldn’t be durable enough for repeated use, and it wouldn’t absorb enough moisture from a wet dog. On the other hand, a very dense microfibre would soak up plenty of water—but it would take far longer to dry and be less practical for everyday use or as a travel accessory.
We knew our customers, fellow dog owners, needed more than just a towel. They need something that works quickly, dries efficiently, and makes life easier, whether you’re at home, in the car, or out on muddy walks.
So we set out to create exactly that.
We chose a carefully balanced microfibre density—thick enough to handle repetitive drying, yet light enough to dry quickly and pack down easily. The result is a quick-drying dog towel that’s highly absorbent, soft to use, and practical for everyday life.
No soggy, heavy towels. No waiting days for it to dry. Just a reliable, high-performance microfibre dog towel that does the job properly—every time. In just a few months, our dog drying kits have been used by dog owners and dog professionals. Read some of the reviews below.
Our Bark and Beau microfibre dog drying kits are available in three dog-practical colours—grey, black, and lilac—designed to look great, wash well, all while withstanding muddy paws, wet fur, and real-life adventures.
